How to Care for Your Jewelry

In this guide, we’ll share a few simple tips and tricks that can help your jewelry last a lifetime.

How to Care for Gold-Fill Jewelry

Gold-fill is a beautiful option for everyday wear. You can even shower in it. Gold-fill jewelry requires very little cleaning; however, everyday wear, gift, and grime can accumulate on the piece.

Gently clean using a mild soap and lukewarm water. You can use a soft-bristled toothbrush on areas with more buildup. Pat dry with a soft cloth. Repeat as needed.

You can also use a polishing cloth to help restore a piece to its original shine. Our favorite is the Sunshine Polishing Cloth - it does the job in no time.

Day to Day Care:

  • When not in use, store your jewelry separately to avoid scratching and tangling. A small zip lock bag works great.
  • Avoid prolonged exposure to chemicals such as harsh soaps, chlorine, saltwater, perfumes, and hairspray.
  • Remove jewelry before sleeping

How to Care for Sterling Silver Jewelry

Sterling Silver is a beautiful and shiny material but, with time, the metal can oxidize and darken.

Using a polishing cloth is the easiest, most effective way to clean sterling silver. Do not use rough cloths, paper towels, or harsh tissues as they can scratch the silver.

Gently clean using a mild soap and lukewarm water. You can use a soft-bristled toothbrush on areas with more buildup. Pat dry with a soft cloth. Repeat as needed.

Baking soda (or Barkeepers Friend) Method: Mix a small amount of baking soda (or Barkeepers Friend) with water to form a light paste. Rub a very small amount on your piece, avoiding any crystals and gemstones, and gently scrub with a soft-bristled brush. Rinse and pat dry.

Day to Day Care:

  • When not in use, store your jewelry separately to avoid scratching and tangling. A small zip lock bag works great. Sterling silver, if left out will oxide with air and tarnish.
  • Avoid prolonged exposure to chemicals such as harsh soaps, chlorine, saltwater, perfumes, and hairspray.
  • Put jewelry on last after applying perfumes, lotions, sunscreens, etc. as some cosmetics can accelerate tarnishing.
  • Remove jewelry before sleeping
